    Hi Lisa,

A little off topic, but what are your thoughts about consistent design orientation between platforms? When I upload a design to Amazon vs Spreadshirt, even if the graphic is the same size, it looks different. And as you know Amazon has no resize and reposition options. Do you care how much your products resemble between platforms? Thanks!

Hi Tre, I just follow the size requirements they provide and always use the largest they offer. I’ve had my shirts printed and shipped to me from 3 different PODs and they have all looked great.

Sales in nearly every industry slump horribly in the summer. Nearly every market I’ve ever been in has been exactly the same. People don’t read as much in the summer, so my self-published book sales have always suffered terribly, for example. They don’t spend as much in the summer, except on stuff like vacations and back-to-school stuff. They are out at the lake, or out of town, or grilling, or whatever.

It’s frustrating as heck, and it’s really painful.

Hello there, Lisa. In addition to passive income, I have also produced and shipped shirts for nearly seven years. I say this because I have found that many people have absolutely no idea how shipping works. I know this sounds crazy, but I wouldn’t be surprised if several of the people who bought your shirts within a day or two of the 4th of July, actually expected to receive their shirts on time. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve received a complaint from a customer who orders a shirt on a Friday night and expected the shirt to arrive Monday morning…with a standard shipping price.

Anyhow, I appreciate your honesty and advice with your Merch sales. Sometimes, I’m not sure if I can trust everyone in the Facebook groups. I’ve always called June/July the “dog days of summer sales” in the past, so I wouldn’t be surprised if most people are experiencing slower sales.

Your commentary about starting a brand is on point. I’ve tried on a few occasions, but like you, I’d rather just sit back, research, design and upload…and I’m not a fan of social media. As a result, I haven’t been able to attract enough buyers without the marketing machines of the POD companies. But I’m going to keep trying because you’re right, there’s nothing better than being able to bring in your own audience, sell directly to them, and avoid the competition sitting in your little corner on the internet.

      Thanks Mike!

I’m convinced there is a delay in reporting. I had shirts for other specific days I designed for recently and I’ve had sales come in a few days AFTER the special days. And one of the events was a one-time event that won’t happen again for a long time. So that just wouldn’t make sense. But 4 people buying the shirts ON 4th of July? I just found that odd and I’ve never seen that kind of behavior since I’ve been on Merch. I can see the ones that were bought a couple of days before but 4 on the actual day? But who knows.

I really appreciate earning trust. That’s one thing that’s always been very important to me. Thanks for listening and commenting!
